What is Lane Departure Warning?

Honda Civic Sedan

Lane Departure Warning, or LDW, is a feature in the Honda Sensing® safety suite, designed to help drivers avoid possible collisions caused by drifting out of their lane. LDW is standard in most new Honda models and available in many others. Read on to learn more about what Lane Departure Warning is and how it works!

How Does LDW Work?

Lane Departure Warning utilizes cameras located near your rearview mirror to detect lane markings. When your vehicle’s wheels move past those markings, the LDW system warns you to move back into your lane using a flashing indicator and audible alert. In some cases, the steering wheel and seat will vibrate to ensure you’re aware your vehicle is drifting. Cincinnati area drivers can expect this system to help prevent crashes from:

  • Vehicles sticking out too far in adjoining lanes
  • Sideswiping
  • Rollovers
  • And more!

Lane Departure Warning Options

When equipped in a Honda model, LDW warning options can be customized to suit your needs. Not only will you be better prepared for a safe trip down Middletown roads, but also on the highway! Customizable options include the following:

  • Haptic feedback warnings, like seat and wheel vibrations
  • Visual alerts with a flashing lane-marking symbol
  • Adjustable audible warning levels
  • The ability to disable the system
  • Highway’s edge recognition

Please note that the Lane Departure Warning system will not go off if you’re using your turn signal as changing lanes would then be considered normal behavior.

Honda Sensing® Features

Along with Lane Departure Warning, Lebanon car buyers can enjoy the protection of a multitude of other safety features in the Honda Sensing® system, such as:

  • Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS)
  • Road Departure Mitigation System (RDM)
