How Does Honda AWD Work?

2020 Honda Passport

Monroe drivers like to maintain traction and control on slick or icy roads. Standard all-wheel-drive system engages the rear wheels using mechanical means, but the Honda AWD system offers a different, more efficient method. Learn more here about how Honda AWD works, and which models have it, and if you have more questions, contact Joe Morgan Honda or drop by the dealership. We’re always happy to help!

The Details of How Honda AWD Works

Honda Real Time AWD™ with Intelligent Control System features front-wheel-drive and adds a rear differential. If your Honda senses that it’s losing traction on slippery road surfaces around Cincinnati the Honda AWD engages the rear differential with a multi-plate clutch system. When the rear wheels are engaged the vehicle is operating with AWD.

With more traditional AWD systems, there is typically a lag before all four wheels are able to engage. With the Honda Real Time AWD™ and Intelligent Control System, the transition is instant. When you need AWD, an electric motor on your Honda transmission will quickly and smoothly make the change, probably without you even noticing.

The Honda Real Time AWD™ with Intelligent Control System will disengage when needed just as easily. The quick Honda AWD response provides better control on your commute to Middletown and minimizes the energy required to drive. The bottom line is that the Honda Real Time AWD™ system is more efficient than other traditional mechanical AWD systems.
