What is Windshield Wiper Fluid?

Windshield wiper fluid is a cleaning fluid designed for car windshield glass. It’s contains ethanol or methanol, as well as a small amount of ethylene glycol to prevent freezing in colder temperatures. Windshield wiper fluid also comes in different formulations, like all-season or winter formulas. These specialized formulas contain additional chemicals to handle different weather conditions with ease. Ask our parts department for suggestions!

How to Use Windshield Wiper Fluid

Learning how to use windshield wiper fluid is easy. When you notice any buildup on your glass, just look for the windshield wiper lever near your steering wheel. Pull the lever to squirt the cleaning fluid onto your windshield, and your wipers will wipe away the debris automatically. What if you need to clean the inside of your windshield? Regular glass cleaner and rubbing alcohol will do the trick!

Where to Put Windshield Wiper Fluid

If your car isn’t dispensing the right amount of wiper fluid, you’re probably running low. You might even get a warning on your dashboard letting you know that it’s time for a top off. As part of your periodic maintenance, we recommend checking your windshield wiper reserves to make sure you have enough when you need it.

  1. Determine where to put windshield wiper fluid in your vehicle. Look for a translucent container with a windshield/water symbol, usually located near the engine, or check out your owner’s manual for more specific information for your make and model.
  2. Remove the reservoir cap to check the fluid levels. If the levels are below the fill line, it’s time to add more.
  3. Carefully pour fluid into the reservoir with a funnel, but don’t overfill past the fill line.
  4. Replace the reservoir cap, and you’re good to go!
